Care of handbags and jewelry

All Bakari jewels are made in a traditional way with a lot of care and high-quality natural materials. You should follow a few simple steps for the correct care of every piece, whatever its composition, so that it remains the same from day one.

It is important to remove jewelry before going to bed or before undertaking any physical activity. It is not recommended to use the pieces in the shower, bathtub, pool or sea as contact with water and exposure to harsh chemicals can damage the pieces colour, causing it to darken or even lose its brightness. Examples include creams, perfumes, cleaning products, chlorine, or the PH of your skin, among others.

Our jewelry is designed using different materials that require specific ways of cleaning. In case your product is made of eco-silver, you can simply wash it with warm water and a PH neutral soap using a soft toothbrush, paper towel or cloth. The same process can equally be applied for pieces with marble patterns. Gold or ruthenium dipped products require some extra care, and cleaning should be carried out with special delicacy to avoid damaging the surface. When jewelry contains wooden pieces, it is best to clean the wooden area with a damp cloth and hydrate the surface with beeswax wood cleaner or with a touch of nourishing cream.

Jewelry should not be exposed to sudden changes of temperature. For proper conservation it is preferable to store your jewelry separately, away from natural sunlight exposure. Equally, always avoid keeping your jewels in humid places, such as the bathroom, as the humidity of the environment will result in compromising the integrity of the product. It is advisable to also wrap the jewelry either a soft fabric to avoid scratches, a quilted jewelry box or even in plastic Ziploc bags.

Here are some tips that will help to keep your bags in an excellent estate.

Bakari flannel bags are specially prepared for the perfect storage of your handbags. Always try to keep them in their original bag, as its soft interior will protect your handbags from scratches, while its exterior will prevent them from contact with any other element. If you are not going to use your handbag for some time, it is highly recommended to fill it to avoid the deformation. Preferably, this is best with onion paper, as magazines and newspapers might stain the interior of your handbag due to the ink. Additionally, it is advisable to avoid stacking, pressing or bending the bags to ensure they keep their original shape. Furthermore, to prevent deformation, do not hang it when you get home, but place it on a flat surface to maintain the handle´s perfect condition, and always pay attention to the weight in the bag, as an excess can cause handle deformation.

Like jewelry, it is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and excessive humidity as this way cause the colour to be damaged generating tone changes, and over time, the leather could crack. If the handbag gets in contact with any liquid, such as during rain, dry it with a white cotton cloth and leave it in an airy place. Remember to avoid ever using heat or dryers, as they could damage the leather.

If you commonly carry cosmetics or perfumes in your handbag, try to store them in a toiletry bag as this will help to avoid dirtying the inner lining if the products accidentally open. It is recommended to hydrate the leather two or three times per year in order to keep its softness and elasticity, and is it suggested to utilize specialty products; for example, a good moisturizer can be very effective. Despite the fact Nivea can be a good option, at Bakari, we recommend special leather creams, such as Nupel. A good trick is to make a test at some discreet point of your bag to ensure that the product will not alter the characteristics of the leather. For a daily cleaning, passing a dry white cotton cloth delicately over its surface will be enough.

It is important to keep in mind that the instructions above do not apply to suede products. The articles for its care are very specific: there are sprays and moisture protectors that will prevent your handbag from premature deterioration. For the cleaning of suede, a soft brush with a dense number of bristles can be applied.
